Coutures, which is only one kilometre down the road is a perfect example of a rural Dordogne village, unpoluted, peaceful and beautiful with a lovely church dating back to the 11/12th century.
Le Petit Coutures restaurant where you can sample local food at very reasonable prices is also a good example of French country life.
The small town of Verteillac five minutes away has a bank, family butcher and a fantastically useful shop, "Merlaud" where you can find just about everything you need and where the rural life meets. Riberac, ten kilometres from here has several banks, good restaurants, two supermarkets, "INTERMARCHE and LECLERC" and, each friday, one of the best locally grown produce markets of the region.
If you want some diversion from staying around the pool at home, the surrounding area will provide you with all sorts of activities,swimming in the pool at Riberac, Verteillac, the pool at la Jamaye or the river Dronne, tennis, canoeing, also in Riberac, Brantome and Bourdeilles, golf , and bikes which you can hire near by. Not forgetting the chateaux, grottes and beautiful sites to visit: les grottes de Villers, Sarlat, Les Eyzies, Rocamadour and pretty Brantome "the little Venice" near by. The Bordeaux, Bergerac, Montbazillac region with their fantastic wines like Pomerol, St Emilon, Montbazillac etc ... are all within easy reach.
